Fairfax – scrambled eggs, chives, cheddar, caramelized onions and Sriracha Mayo in a brioche bun

Please join me in welcoming today’s guest hosts, Tenille and Salt Lick. Since I had already moved to NYC, I wasn’t able to actually visit Egg Slut, so I had T and S go in my place. All pictures are Tenille’s and below are the unedited thoughts of both T and S. Thanks guys!

TENILLE:

Line was super long but actually went fast. We got it for there and a seat opened up at counter 1-2 minutes after we ordered. It’s a bustling hipster breakfast counter to an almost absurd degree but worth it. Would absolutely go again. Backs are right to the street so you feel very much a part of the city and outside which was cool. Great ambiance. Even with the crowd, they don’t rush you. Although we didn’t linger too long after eating since people were waiting but never felt pressed to eat fast.

I got the Fairfax (menu attached for reference). Super soft bun and everything super oozy gooey in the best possible way. They serve it with a fork. Eggs were very soft – perfectly scrambled. I was worried the Sriracha would overpower and be the dominate flavor but it was thinly applied and complemented it perfectly with a little heat and some extra flavor. Really tied it all together and upped the flavor of all the other elements. Was absolutely delicious although definitely rich – not an everyday breakfast sandwich. Very messy but so easy to eat.

We also got the Slut which was different and quite good. Not exploding with flavor but tasty great comfort food. Potato puree was well seasoned and had a great (very smooth) texture. Crostini diminished it. Was better with the spoon right out of the jar. Worth ordering just because it’s different and hipster heaven. Comes in a little jar and you mix it all together before eating. Attaching a pic for reference but do NOT use. It’s blurry.

Very reasonable process. Ours was under $25 and we got three items. Although Slut def a side – not enough for a full meal.

SALT LICK:

I don’t like egg sandwiches. Egg sandwiches are like the Hyundai Accent of food, no one gets excited about a Hyundai Accent. The best part of an egg sandwich is the bacon, but the bacon flavor always gets mushed up in the boring eggs and bun.

Not at Eggslut!

They pile thick, crispy, delicious bacon over a perfectly cooked over-medium egg that hangs off the side of a brioche bun that’s slathered in tangy ketchup. I loved it.

It’s definitely my favorite egg sandwich.

The brioche bun is a little too thick and not really that flavorful. I’d say that’s my only knock on the sandwich. If all of those same ingredients were on an english muffin, I would’ve been overjoyed. Still, loved this sandwich. I think Tenille mentioned it but the long line moved fast.
