Pork Belly’s is a brand new, super tiny, sorta upscale, grab-and-go BBQ sandwich spot located on Abbot Kinney in Venice.
There’s only one communal table you can stand at while you gorge, but why don’t you just take your meal to the beach so you can run into the ocean afterwards, to wash all the deliciousness off your face.
I’m not lying when I say Pork Belly’s serves the best brisket sandwich I’ve EVER HAD. Perfectly smoked and seasoned, shredded so my poor fake teeth don’t have to do too much work chewin’ and just the right amount of BBQ sauce on very soft, pillowy brioche bun. Absolute heaven.
My friend enjoyed his PBLT, which featured thick cuts of flavorful pork belly.
On my second visit, I played hooky from work and met owner Jon Swire (I keeping thinking it’s “Swine”, which would be appropriate with the restaurant’s theme) and I got to chow on the Chop Tops (tater tots covered in the previously mentioned brisket and a homemade cheese sauce)the incredible, fall apart Pork Ribs, the Abbot Joe (sloppy joe with chorizo and a fried egg) and the Smoky Balls (meatball sub).
The tots are a must order. You can also get the sloppy joe mixture on them, you won’t go wrong either way. The Abbot Joe was really good but on the rich side, so a good sharing sandwich.
The meatball sub is incredible. The sauce and balls were well seasoned, which is not often the case. “Let’s smother that sucker in marinara so they won’t taste how bland our balls are!” is what the other guys are probably saying.
Balls.
If you’re ever in Venice and want to pig out, this is where you come. Nowhere else. Here.
Balls.
(Please note, as you peruse the photos below, remember that BBQ is messy by nature. It’s not supposed to be pretty. Don’t waste your time with pretty BBQ)
