I went here last Friday for a joint birthday lunch with colleagues (Bertha and Ernestine), shortly before escaping LA for the Whitewater rafting trip.
On a side note, on my way home from this lunch, a semi rammed into the side of my car! Yikes! However, I was in a hurry and had no time for such things and stopping and exchanging insurance. I proceeded to commit a hit and run.*
I’ve been here a few times before, as with many places in LA.
I mean, I’ve been to over 1000 restaurants since moving here (no joke!) I’m gonna have a few repeats.
Fraiche is a solid, upscale, pretty spot on the newly fashionable Culver Blvd in Culver City. There is a limited menu, which is usually a sign for high quality. I liked what I’ve ordered in the past, but haven’t been drooling to go back.
We all ordered a pasta.
Bertha’s English pea ravioli came out in the stomach-stretching quantity of 6.
Bertha, who is British, asked the waiter “I’m sorry, what are English peas?â€
Ernestine ordered a pesto pasta with a few nasty bottom dwellers crawling around on top of it. She loved it. I…did not.
I ordered the very tasty Penne with Lamb Bolognese and Rosemary. Lots of rosemary. Which I liked. If you don’t like Rosemary, you’re an idiot. (Hmm, I seem like I’m in a bad mood, don’t I?)
We ordered a desert which nearly caused quite the catastrophe!
It was a baked apple tart thing (the pretentious name has been forgotten) which we were certain contained a large percentage of booze.
As Bertha has been sober for a while, we kind of freaked out and made sure from the waiter, that booze was no where to be found.
Bertha remarked “15 years sobriety and I’m done in by an apple pie!!â€
*Actually, the semi lightly tapped me with no damage whatsoever to itself and it was all my fault. But at the time it felt like that Steven King horror movie Maximum Overdrive!!
