OK, so my mother mentioned that I “seem to love everything you shove into your gob” and need to write more scathing reviews. The problem is, I don’t go to shitty restaurants. Sorry, mom. But trust me, I won’t lie if I do. I’ll let you, the hungry reader, know if I eat crap or get awful service.
My friend, S.S. suggested we try this tapas place in Santa Monica tonight and I’m very glad I did. Bar Pintxo is quaint, unpretentious, and authentic. Friendly, efficient waitstaff. Casual neighborhood feel. Wine bottles surround you.
We ordered a few items to start, all pictured above. They sure looked great. Like spanish sushi! But I didn’t love them. (There you go, Mom) The Tomato and Serrano ham on grilled bread had an aftertaste because the bread was a bit burnt and the Foie mousse with caramelized onions and apples had a very pungent flavor. The pickled fish and potato puree on toast was ok. A bit fishy. S.S. loved the mussels dish we ordered.
All that aside, all that we ate next was INCREDIBLE.
We had the radish, jicama and avocado:
The amazing spanish olives:
The Tortilla Espanola (like a quiche with eggs, potatoes and onions) – HORRIFIC PHOTO ALERT:
And the star of the show, the Chicken and Ham Croquetas! Yum. Heaven in ball form:
Our waitress was a doll, I never felt bad about trying to get her attention. The Spanish themed music was relaxing, the wine selection was specific and impressive. I would definitely come back. Just don’t ask me to pronounce the name.
Sorry Mom, I’m sure you’ve fallen asleep now. Wake up!
